Can Melatonin Help Cure Your Insomnia?

Can Melatonin Help Cure Your Insomnia?

Insomnia has been linked with a natural hormone produced by the body. This hormone, called melatonin, is responsible for making the body feel tired and inducing the sleep cycle. It is produced by the pineal gland in the brain. This insomnia hormone can also be made synthetically and is used as a treatment for insomnia.

Melatonin Also Known As the Insomnia Hormone

Melatonin works variety of different ways. Melatonin is shown to decrease body temperature, suppress stimulating hormones produced by the body, and promote relaxation.
Melatonin is made by the penal gland and is part of the body’s natural cycle. The body responds to darkness or night by producing melatonin so we get tired and go to sleep. The body needs sleep to keep it working properly.

Why Melatonin is Important in Curing Insomnia?

When a person’s body is not making enough melatonin and is suffering from insomnia as a result, they are putting their body at risk for more serious problems. Sleep helps us to reinvigorate our body and mind. Sleep is a key ingredient in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It keeps us alert and focused throughout the day. When we do not get enough sleep we are lethargic, tired and worn down by the activities of during the day. It slows reaction time and can cause a person to have accidents or feel clumsy and uncoordinated.

When a person is suffering from insomnia their body's immune system is also not as strong and gets weaker. Sleep is important building block to provide a good foundation for the immune system. Therefore, a person with insomnia may be sick more. They can also be more irritable and moody.

How Can Melatonin Help Fight Insomnia?

Melatonin is produced less as we get older. That is why insomnia is common occurrence in older adults. When melatonin is reduced it can be supplemented by a person taking the insomnia hormone in pill form. This will help boost the body’s levels of melatonin; a person can then overcome the insomnia because the body is responding naturally again to the cues form the hormone to induce sleep.

Unfortunately melatonin is not a cure-all for insomnia. For some patients, it is not a problem with melatonin that is causing their insomnia. If there is another under lying problem then melatonin supplements might not help at all and you will need to investigate the insomnia issue further.

The insomnia hormone melatonin is very important. A person with low melatonin production will not only have problems sleeping, but may also start to get sick more often. They also may have accidents and will likely have problems functioning during the day. That is why keeping melatonin levels in the body at a steady level is important and why science and the medical community have worked to make this insomnia hormone synthetically.
